My sister and I have this message board that's a chill alternative type women's board. Someone posted a question asking what our life philosophies are and how we got to the point we're at in establishing these theories and beliefs. I thought it was interesting, and ended up writing a novelette ... which I don't think was the point, but it almost sufficiently got out how I live and why I live that way. So, for posterities' sake, I shall post it here too.
I have a deep belief in karmic law.
I do not hold negative energy towards anyone for any length of time. I feel it is toxic energy and will poison me and my life. So I let it go.
I do not sweat the small stuff. If something doesn't get done, it'll get done tomorrow.
If shit hits the fan I recognize it for what it is, just another step of the journey. I can usually quickly look and see what beauty or positivity can come from each incident. It's all about the journey and learning.
I meditate daily to center myself.
I do not small talk. I do not bullshit.
I am very straight forward, I try to be respectful of everyone (child and adult alike).
I am not superior or inferior to anyone, we are all just the same. Little molecules mixing with the air, and each other.
Bask in the simplicities, that's where the rhythm of life is.
Know where you are in the world, be conscious of your surroundings and Mother Earth - take care of the Universe, it'll take care of you.
Give everything you can, and then give some more. It'll come back.
Always be polite, always tip well, compliment often and mean each one (this helps you find the beauty in everything.)
I am sincere, and am genuine in my dealings with people, I mean every word I say and I carefully chose those words.
Knowledge is power - learn everything you can. Never stop.
The Universe is about energies, is infinite, we have more lives ahead of us, and many behind us.
Listen to the world and listen to yourself. Take care of your needs, but remember your actions affect everything around you. It's the ripple effect.
Love much, smile often, surround yourself with people who love and get you, don't forget to see the beauty in everything.
Never pass up a life changing experience. When you are old you're not going to wish you did less stuff. This is why I've jumped at situations of travel abroad, and this is also why me and Jon plan on going to China for a year after we're done with school to teach English to kids - we can't justify to ourselves why we'd let such a chance pass and not taking it. When else are we going to live this life?
Live bold, live loud, BE YOURSELF no matter what the circumstance, remain yourself. After a while it becomes just natural. I am me (just ask those around me) unabashedly.
I don't believe in a male God, or the Christian God or Jesus story. I believe in energies, Mother Earth, spirits and the infinite. I believe we have past lives, and future lives, and we learn and move from each with the same group of soul mates - many of them. When shit is bad it doesn't seem bad because I see it's just a small moment and situation in the infinite, so it's easy to let things go if they are toxic or anything other than the best. Require yourself to be the best person you can.
That's how we live pretty much Jon is on the exact same page.
How I got to this was a long path. I was raised heavily religious (Mormon) as you all know. Then when I was a teenager I just didn't get it, I didn't believe it, I didn't think life was about fear of a higher power. I started looking into more liberal ideals (both spiritually and secular) and found I agreed with a lot of the ideals. I studied Paganism (I actually studied under a woman who taught me a large amount of the metaphysical rituals I use) and just started learning. Reading everything I could, always learning, always reading. I soon stumbled upon Eastern thought - The Tao te Ching, to be exact. I really loved it, and agreed heavily with it. Then I read an extensive amount on existentialism and Marxism. I have since melded a mix of paganism, existentialism, taoism and Marxism as my life views on spirituality, philosophy and social/economic outlook. Politically I'm radical left - I fully believe in socialism and hope to one day move to a country that is socialist, or be involved in revolution of this country to gain a more socialist government. I am willing to die for my beliefs.
And, most importantly:
Don't forget to have a good time.
